Lean in close, ‘cause we have a secret: you don’t have to be a bona fide genius to skydive. Sure, the feats of engineering involved in modern-day skydiving required some pretty big brains and a good bit of ingenuity, but, thankfully, the actual skydiving part doesn’t require you to be an Einstein.
Want to learn a bit about skydiving, but you aren’t sure where to start? We’ve got your back. Consider this a “skydiving for dummies” guide covering the dos and don’ts of skydiving.
When it comes to skydiving tips for beginners, we cannot stress this one enough. If this is your first jump, you DO need to get a video or photo package. The cold hard truth is you only get one first skydive. Even with a stellar memory, your first jump is going to, quite literally, fly by! Our skydiving videos capture each exciting moment as you take off in the aircraft (knowing full well you’re not going to land in one), as you bravely step into the wild, blue yonder, as you zip through the air at 120 mph, and as you experience the serenity of the parachute ride. Without video or photos, you’ll have nothing to jog your memory or to help you relive this monumental experience.
Man, oh man, if only everyone took this little bit of advice. This beginner skydiving tip also applies to your everyday experiences.
Breath is life. When you experience stress, anxiety, or fear, focus in with your breath. No matter how tough things get, no matter how challenging, you can always control your breath. Inhale and exhale: it sounds so simple, but we know it’s not. As you peer from the side of the plane, your thoughts will race 1000 miles a minute. Rein in your emotions and focus on this moment. Find your breath as you find your wings.
Here’s a freebie skydiving tip, if at any time on your skydive, you feel like you can’t breathe, let out a big holler! If you can yell, you can breathe!
Everything’s better with friends, including skydiving! Friends provide the perfect amount of energy to hype you up and keep you there. To sweeten the deal, we also offer group rates. Come one, come all, and have a ball making tandem skydives with your best buds!
It’s a big deal to work up the nerve to make your first skydive. Out of the dos and don’ts of skydiving, this one is close to our hearts. Stasis is great and all, but real growth happens when you get outside of your comfort zone. If you avoid challenges, you avoid opportunities to learn and, likewise, opportunities to explore your limits. It’s okay to be afraid, but you shouldn’t let fear rule your life. If you want to take flight, take a chance and, spread your wings. We’ll be right here to help you.
Once you’ve made the first step and completed a tandem skydive, you might find this skydiving thing is just right for you! So, do it again! At WNY Skydiving, we have a program to turn your tandem skydiving obsession into a path toward becoming a licensed skydiver.
